Unless you have someone to help you clean up your desk in the morning, make sure that you clean it up before you leave your work. It is important part to start your day on a clean and well organized desk as it could also reduce stress at the office. In addition, having a clean desk will show that you are a well-organized person that pays attention to detail to superiors and co-workers.

Plants
Some research shown that plants will help in creating a positive and friendly environment that has a more soothing effect on people. So, whatever your personal preference is, wether it is a cut bamboo on your desk, or a larger plant in the corner, get yourself more life in your workspace!

Pictures
Bring a few pictures of someone or something important to you. It is a good idea having a picture of your wife and kids on your desk as it will help reduce stress.

To-Do
Some might prefer to do this and some might not, but if you think you’ll like it, make a To-Do list at the beginning of each day. This will this help you create an achievable goal for the day, and it will also help tracking progresses.

Communicate
Keeping good communication with your boss will help if your boss got you stressed up till now! Take the initiative and open up some communication. It will help you know what he/she expect, as well what he/she can expect.

So, you are an optimist, because you should do a couple of things online in order to make millions.

And finally, realist – is a person who understands that the world is in the financial crisis but it is possible to live and afford expensive things having home computer work. It is a good solution to the problem of unemployment and a perfect way of getting extra money without going out of home. This type of business is also suitable for moms who want to start their own business and to make sure that the future of their children will be without dark clouds.

For a lot of us, interviews can be quite nerve wracking. It’ll be worse if you come for an interview unprepared as you might lose your dream job.

Interviews vary from one to another but the following are some important points that will help you improve your success chance.

The first point is, prepare yourself with as much information about the company your going to get into, and the role that you are going for. You can try to go to the company’s website to learn about the company as well as their products and services they are offering. Try to find some information about your interviewer, and his/her role within the company.

The second point might sounds obvious, but sometime it is one of the biggest lame mistake one can make. Make sure you know exactly the place where you are going to attend the interview. Give yourself plenty of time to arrive as arriving late will not be a good first impression. By arriving earlier you’ll also have the opportunity to gather your thoughts and prepare yourself on the spot.

The third point, decide what you are going to wear the night before to avoid rushing around the day of your interview.

The fourth point, have a copy of your CV with you and ensure that you read it through so you are able to answer any questions related.

The fifth point, greet your interviewer with a smile and a strong handshake. Maintain a good eye contact at all times, with the interviewer you are responding to.

The sixth point, ask questions and show a real interest in the position and the company. Ask questions that indicate an interest in their line of work or products and your enthusiasm and interest in the role itself, rather than holiday entitlement, pensions etc.

The seventh point, it is always better to response in a positive way. Also, if you do not understand a question, don’t guess the answer – ask them to explain the question further. Although you may be nervous and want to give the impression you are knowledgeable, don’t talk too much. Give yourself at least 5-6 seconds to think about your answer before you reply.

The eight point, Have your own questions prepared in advance but try to ensure that you use them in the context of the interview and think about the information you have already been given by the interviewer already. This will help to show the interviewer that you are interested in the company and want to find out more about the role you are being interviewed for. You can try to ask about the training available within the role you are taking or what would the career development pathway you can expect over the upcoming years.

At the end of the interview, if the opportunity arises, ask them how they felt the interview went. Also, if you are interested in the position, it is important to tell them.

Finally, make sure you know what the follow up procedure is, and when you can expect to hear back from them. Always thank them for seeing you.

These are some ideas to help you on choosing your dream career, especially if you’re still trying to figure out how to do what you absolutely love – or even figure out what you love.

One that got your interest
So, if you want to find your dream career, you’ll have to go after what you want. Think about it, there are people making a living playing their favorite instrument, dressing up in makeup and “clowning around” or going the traditional route of joining the ranks of Corporate America – and you can do it too. The main way for you to accomplish this goal is to take note of the projects you absolutely love then explore ways to turn that love into a tangible career.

Know your Personality
By taking a personality tests, you can better determine, based on your interests, what careers would be best suited for you. Examples of the two tests you can take online are the Keirsey Temperament Sorter and Ansir Self-Perception tests.

Both of them are the most widely-used personality test in the world. The first would help you determine your organization, career, and personal development attributes. While the latter will help you identify your dominant strengths and innate potential so that you can quickly move toward what best suits your personality. Both of these tests work well to give you insight into aspects of your personality that you may not have been aware of. But most importantly, they help you correlate those personality traits with various career options, helping to make finding your dream career a little easier.

Try Temporary Work
By taking on a temporary work, you can test the waters of different careers without having to commit permanently to any.

Don’t be afraid to go after your dream job. You may find it to be the best decision you’ve ever made.

The leading money making majors might be different each year. Most of the time, majors that are harder to complete, usually will be more rewarding at the end.

I was curious about the major I’m taking now which is Computer Science, as people often say that it is quite a good rewarding major, so, I compiled a list of the somewhat popular college major -at least in my country- their initial salary -in United States- and the type of jobs that you’ll be able to get after finishing it.

1.)Engineering type of majors including Chemical Engineering ($59,531), Electrical Engineering ($60,592), Mechanical Engineering ($57,547), and civil engineering ($49,537). Usually, these majors are the hardest to complete with massive homework and projects and require a lot of mathematic skills which many other people don’t. The employment growth for the majority of engineering jobs is moving at a pace faster than most occupations. The jobs for these majors include: Designing constructions from bridges to skyscrapers, creating medical advancements and a lot more.

2.)Computer Science ($57,249)- With the endless development potential of computers and the cyberspace, computer science are very important as it will keep growing in the future. Because of that people who have skills in computer science are paid high. Jobs for this major include: Database manager, Systems analyst, Applications programmer, Computer programmer.

3.)Accounting ($53,932) – This major can be really boring as it contains a lot of numbers, and you won’t be able to bear it if you don’t like to see a lot of numbers in your paper. Still, it could be worth it for your post college opportunities. Accountants will always be in great demand because I think most people are lazy and they don’t have the knowledge to do their taxes. The growth of this job is average. Examples for the jobs are: Management accountants, Government accountants, Public accountants, Auditors

4.)Economics/Finance($80,930/$85,788)- With economics you will be able to analyze almost anything. It can be very interesting. However, you could get bored to death if you got a wrong professor. If you are interested in economics, the book “Freakonomics” would be suitable for you. Some of my friends in this major said that it is known to open people’s minds to economics. Growth of this job is very strong for finance and economics. Examples for the jobs include: Economists in government, business, academic fields.

More choices of majors that you can choose: Business Administration-$54,626, Psychology-$43,945, and Arts at approximately $44,810

Today many businessmen pay special attention to training and retraining of their managers. And of course it is great to understand that there are special sales training programs targeted to improve sales of their company. In fact training sales is not an easy task because a sales coach must combine both theoretical and practical knowledge because theory is a key element to practice.

Sales training programs mostly consist of lectures and seminars which is very simple. During them you can share you ideas and practical knowledge in the sphere of sales improvement. The main feature of such seminars is that you can design different situations and thus discuss and analyze different ways out of problematic situations. In fact this knowledge can be further employed in your business thus minimizing all negative effects and problems that you can face. This is the main assentce of sales improvement

Are you a freelance writer or planning on becoming one? There are thousands of websites that will pop up when you search for freelance writing or publishing in search engines, but sad to say, almost ¾ of it are fibs and they just want to extort your money. However, Elance is surely a promising website to drop by if you wish to make a career out of freelance writing. They offer various kinds of jobs for freelance writers. So, how does this website work? If you are familiar with Ebay, then you will understand how it works in just a few seconds. Companies and people who need writers (for personal or business) will post their “projects” on Elance. Registered users can then “bid” for the lowest possible “amount” they can do with the said project. If the client likes your bid, then the project is yours.

Of course, job aggregators are indeed helpful in helping you find a job—but it is only up to you if you will land the job that the job aggregator picked for you. Nevertheless, if you get a call for an interview, oftentimes you get so excited and jittery you forget to ask details. Some company HRs are so cunning they wait for you to ask questions (to start communication). They sometimes just announce to you your interview date and schedule without even giving you the address and the requirements needed to be brought for the interview. Either they assume that you know it, or they wait for you to ask questions. Be alert when taking interview calls and jot down everything the person on the other line says.

Also, you must have experience in journalism, copywriting, editing, publishing or media sales. For some jobs, you must have an MA in publishing or specialize on a subject matter or language. If you want to impress your employer, show that you have the qualities of a good employee like creativity, enthusiasm, adaptability, ability to work well even when under pressure and discipline to meet deadlines. If you have all these and you present yourself well during the interview, you can expect to become the next commissioning editor on your chosen place of work.

Commissioning editors manage lists that are concerned with a specific area like a subject or a book. Their job includes planning and monitoring projects, identifying and talking with authors, production and marketing staff, supervising the editorial staff’s work; dealing with budget and strategy; issuing contracts, attending book fairs; making book lists, studying books and book lists; reading, evaluating and commissioning titles; researching on the market; contributing to sales; writing reports. They usually begin as junior editorial assistants and they may work for commercial or academic publishers. They may also do freelance work once they have gained adequate skills and experience.

Those with a faster reading speed can better understand the theme of the material than the other. This will come in handy if your career is related with reading materials.

Reader must also know the purpose of the reading so that he can skim the material and look for his desired information and it also helps the reader to concentrate on specific section of the material. Reader won’t need to read every word of the material as it consumes more time and the reader might lose concentration. Dividing the sentence into shorter fragment is also crucial.

Having a good knowledge on vocabulary is really important in speed-reading. Lots of readers stuck in the middle of reading because they lack on vocabulary. Reader has to practice reading everyday. as it’s a continuous process. You will increase your reading speed with more practice.

Choosing the right time is also important as experts suggest early morning to be the best time for speed-reading although some people might be find themselves comfortable at night. So it varies from one to another.

Normal readers without speed-reading skills can not fully utilized his reading capacity. We all have a much faster reading ability. But because the lack of proper knowledge and practice we are unable to use that.

Securing a top-level job (executive, senior manager or senior professional) may seem like an impossible task, especially if this is your first time applying for one. But if you feel that you’re ready to take that next step in your career, you can certainly get the job you want – you’ll just have to put in the necessary work by creating a great resume.

Undoubtedly, a resume for an executive-level job is different from one for a lower-level position. So before you send off your application for the position you’re eyeing, you should take some time to develop strategies that can help you write a standout executive resume. Here are some ideas to get you started …

Use an Executive Profile

While you may be used to using an objective as an introduction to your resume, for executive jobs it is a good idea to create an executive profile. It serves a similar purpose in explaining why you’re applying for the position, but also goes one step further to summarize your key qualifications.

The executive profile is typically much longer than an objective, sometimes spanning up to a half of a page. In the profile, you can highlight 4-6 specific skills or qualifications that are each followed by examples of these skills. For instance, one qualification may be that you’re “effective and wholly accountable in high-profile executive roles.” Beneath this qualification you can note the reasons why this is true. By doing this you’ll be able to highlight your standout abilities without forcing the employer to sift through the resume to find them.

Show Them You’re a Complete Package

As an executive you are expected to showcase leadership and strong decision-making skills at all times. You need to prove you are a visionary who can help the company grow. Also, you must have integrity, charisma, and the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels in the company. In other words, you should be the complete package.

A good way to express that you are is by creating an achievement-oriented resume that focuses on specific instances at your previous employers that show off some or all of the above criteria. You may have taken a chance on a retail product that others were unsure of, but your risk-taking made the company record profits. Or you may have masterminded and implemented a new team to manage internal conflicts that was so successful that turnover decreased by 30 percent. Whatever details you choose to highlight when summarizing your experiences at previous employers, you should also tailor them to match what the specific employer is looking for in an applicant.

Believe You Belong There

It may seem a bit intimidating to take steps toward higher-level positions, but fortunately for you no one starts at the top – you are not the first to try this. So see yourself in that great job, making confident decisions, and catapulting the company into a new stratosphere. Your positive attitude will serve you immensely in writing your resume as well as interviewing.

Submitting your executive resume is only the start of your journey in securing a top-level job. But by creating a very thorough, very informative, and very professional one, you can at least know that your dreams are that much closer to being realized.

Is there such a thing as a good fight? The willingness to embrace conflict and turn a bad fight into a good one is a hallmark of a great leader. And if you want to learn, there are steps you can take to help turn negative conflicts into creative opportunities.

1) Don’t Despair, Prepare!

First, and most importantly, know that sometimes it’s best to walk away from conflict. Know your ‘exit point’ -– the point at which it makes more sense to walk away from a conflict than it does to work to manage the issue. There are times that it will be your best option.

Everyone has their own style of dealing with conflict. Understand the different styles, identify yours and the styles of your team. Learn to appreciate the diverse styles of others, assume leadership when conflicts arise, and value the creative spark that conflicts can kindle.

2) Follow the Yellow Brick Road

What is your goal? If you can agree on a common goal – to creatively solve a problem, to generate a new idea or to sell more product -– you’ll have a better chance of harnessing the conflict. Sometimes the root of a conflict is that you don’t even agree on what the problem is -– or that you’re struggling to address different issues.

3) Reveal, Don’t Conceal

You must agree -– at least some extent -– to be vulnerable, to reveal why you want something, and to declare what’s really important to you about an issue. When we’re in conflict, we always have a story – usually one that justifies our proposed solution. Listen and try to understand the other person’s story. If the other person won’t reveal their needs or interests, ask open-ended questions and look for clues.

4) Tackle the Problem , Not the Person

Focus on the problem and persuade the other person to join you in solving the problem. Make the problem your common enemy rather than blaming the other person for causing the problem. Try and discourage conflicts from becoming personal.

5) Play Within Bounds

Sometimes conflicts are caused by process problems rather than substantive issues. If the other person remains difficult, start talking more about standards and procedures than about the problem. This can help you creatively manage a conflict that seems like an unmovable object.

6) Stir Up a Storm

Brainstorm — welcoming all suggestions — then sort through them all and determine which ones merit further study. Many of us fall in love with our solutions and decide that our idea is the only possibility. The best resolution for all concerned may not be the one we had previously discussed.

7) Take a Time Out

Classic advocates of creative conflict management have used this move throughout history. Martin Luther King Jr. suggested we “go to the mountain” during conflict to gain the higher ground and a better perspective on the problem. Gandhi retreated to meditation and fasting during the most intense periods of his struggle to free the Indian people. When things get heated or stalled consider taking a time out to regroup.

 Talk Until You Drop

People don’t allow enough time for creative conflict management. In our modern, instantaneous world we have lost our patience. If you have decided the conflict is worth your time and energy, make sure you allow sufficient time for management. It usually takes longer than we think to produce good fights instead of bad ones.

9) Circle the Wagons

When you reach an agreement or a creative solution, you need to go through some sort of closure process. Arrange a time in the future to review how the solution is working. Agree upon an action plan to accomplish the goals of an agreement and decide who does what, when and where.

10) Write to Avoid New Fights

Write down what you think you’ve agreed upon at various stages. The process helps clarify your own thinking as well as the agreement. We all tend to assume the meaning we ascribe to a certain word or discussion is the same for everyone. This one act will save you a world of hurt down the road.

These ten steps can provide a roadmap to lead you skillfully through using conflict to generate creativity. While you may not need to use all ten for every situation, it’s good to review them before you try to resolve an issue. Then, you’ll be able to see where you’re stuck and what you need to do to move forward. For complex disputes, you may very well need to work your way through all the steps with all the parties.
