A New Career for Myself
By Philip | May 28, 2009
Spending the whole day doing things you hate won’t do any good and will make you feel like being punished. But in fact, lots of us, spend most of our day working at our jobs that we don’t like. Jobs and careers are very different, so if you don’t like what you do, first you must determine if it is your job you hate or your career by carefully evaluating your current job. Once that is determined, you can takes steps to move forward with a plan of correction.
Few questions that might help you:
- Do you like the people you’re working with?
- Do you hate your boss?
- Do you feel underpaid?
- Do you enjoy the work you do?
Depending on your answer, you may just need a change of employment. Often when people strip away the things they don’t like about their job they find that they actually like what they do. They just feel undervalued, or don’t thrive in the environment they are working in.
Then, put the things that you like and things that you’re good at on paper with two columns and put their opposites in the second column. Visit a career counselor for some help, and do some internet research. There are even free online aptitude tests you can take to help you determine which direction you want to go. But most importantly, do what is best for you and don’t stay in a position that is not productive for you.
